Group Fitness Classes

From beginner to advanced, we have several fitness classes to challenge you and to fit your busy schedule. Choose from up to 75 classes scheduled throughout the week. Classes are FREE for students and members. No registration required. New class schedule begins Tuesday, March 25th through Sunday, May 11th. Revised schedule for finals week will begin on Monday, May 14th.

TGIF
Get ready for the weekend with this popular class. This class alternates between all the listed group exercise classes each week. You won't know what the instructor has in store for you. Not to worry! You will always get a great workout while having fun! All fitness levels welcome!

NEW!!! Step It Up!
New to step aerobics? This class is for you. Easy to follow and fun choreography will make this 50 minute fly by.

NEW!! Cardio Cabaret
Try something new and exciting! Combine sensual dance and rhythmic cardio exercise in a workout for the whole body. This exhilarating class uses low impact dance and basic aerobic exercises to work the body's major muscle groups and build cardio respiratory endurance while allowing participants to explore new and exciting means of exercise. No pervious dance experience required.

NEW!!! Swim Training Workout
Build endurance and athletic prowess with a nationally certified personal trainer and water safety instructor in this new and fun class that uses a variety of swimming training workouts and technique instruction. Increase stamina and strength while enjoying a different mode of exercise, utilizing swimming as a tool to increased fitness. Beginners and advanced swimmers welcome

Step Express Short on time?
Take part in this 30 minute energetic cardiovascular workout using a step with easy-to-follow choreography. All fitness levels welcome!

Total Body Express (TBE)
Don't forget to add resistance training to your workout schedule 2-3 times per week. Take advantage of this 30 minute routine designed to increase your muscle endurance. Perform more repetitions with lower resistance through the use of medicine balls, body bars, BOSUs, body bands, physioballs, dumbbells and more. All fitness levels welcome!

Indoor Cycle Express
New to cycling or just want to get in a quick workout? This 30 minute class will provide a fun filled combination of elements such as rolling hills, short sprints, slow steady climbs and yes, relaxing downhills! Note: For your comfort and safety, please arrive 5-10 minutes early for bike set-up. Class is limited to 27 participants on a first come, first serve basis. Beginners very welcome!

The CORE
This class is designed to strengthen the muscle groups that stabilize your central skeletal structure. These muscles determine your posture in each sport and your daily life routine and in effect link your upper and lower body. Core training focuses on muscular areas of the abdominals, upper and lower back, hips flexors, outer and inner thighs, hamstrings, chest and some triceps work.

Indoor Cycling
60 minutes of a fun and challenging way to exercise on a stationary bicycle by adjusting tempo and resistance. You control the intensity of your workout. No worries about complicated choreography. Just get into the rhythm and sweat like you never have before. Please note: For your comfort and safety, please arrive 5 10 minutes early for bike set-up. Class is limited to 27 participants on a first come first serve basis. Moderate to advanced fitness levels only!

Step Interval
Change up your workout routine with this 60 minute class that combines a cardiovascular workout - alternating periods of aerobic and anaerobic conditioning - with bouts of resistance training. Intensity levels can be easily varied by performing the movement without the step. All fitness levels welcome!

Step N Strengthen (SNS)
A great total body workout! The first half is step aerobics choreography will introduce options suitable to all fitness levels. The second half is resistance training for the muscles. All fitness levels welcome!

Zumba
This class features easy to follow Fusion of Latin dance steps with modern dance movements and music. These easy to follow dance routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. It targets all areas of the body and most important muscle, the heart! All fitness levels welcome!

Cardio Kickboxing
Great class for the > adventurous. All the elements of a real boxer's training program. Discover strength and attitude through an intense cardiovascular workout combining jabs, punches, kicks, blocks and easy-to-follow combinations. Core training and stretching are included. Gloves are provided. Moderate to advanced fitness levels recommended.

Cardio Hip-Hop
This class will help you reach your fitness goals by doing what you love...dancing! Hip Hop dance is a great way to improve your cardiovascular endurance and strengthen muscles. Get in shape and have fun at the same time. All fitness levels welcome!

Cardio Jazz/Funk
Calling all dancer enthusiasts. Want to get a great cardio workout and have fun at the same time. This class takes a mix of lyrical and up-beat dances to music from acoustic and pop to R&B and dance. All fitness levels welcome!

Intro. To Boxing
Take a jab learning the science and style of boxing with a former UNLV boxing champ, Henry Namauu. This class is geared toward weight management by incorporating a tough, effective total body workout where you will learn traditional boxing moves, combinations and skipping drills to increase muscular strength, co-ordination and cardiovascular fitness. No previous experience required.

Chinese Kung Fu
The instructor will pass down his knowledge of Kung Fu principles and techniques demonstrated through hands-on training and repetition. The students will practice forms, self defense applications, and two person drills. Safety, moderation, and control are given a top priority at all times. Students will obtain increased flexibility, stamina, leg/upper body strength, coordination, and balance. Beginners welcome!

Judo
Judo is a Japanese martial art and an Olympic sport that consists of throwing and grappling techniques. With Judo, one can learn how to use strength, skill and leverage with maximum efficiency. It is a form of self-defense and a means of self improvement. All fitness levels welcome!

Broken Circle Level I/ Self Defense
This class focuses on reality based martial arts tactics and combative scenarios. Students will be exposed to intense hands on experiences with stand up aggression, weapons, seizing, locking, grabbing, throwing, attacks, grappling, and mass attacks. Expressing a strong desire to attend this class will not prepare students for its content. This is not a MMA, DHB, UFC, class. Previous martial arts experience recommended.

Bootcamp
Test your fitness level to the max! This 60 minute high intensity sports conditioning class will focus on strength, agility, and speed in a non-stop cardio/strength training class to increase strength and stamina. Become one of the few, the proud, and the conditioned! Moderate to advanced fitness level highly recommended. (Class takes place on 3rd floor gym court)

Pilates
Pilates is a fitness routine that increases and creates a balance between strength and flexibility. You can expect longer and leaner muscles, stress relief, improved posture, coordination, balance, flexibility and increased core strength and inner awareness. People who have osteoporosis should not participate in this class. All fitness levels welcome!

Yoga for Wellness
Mindfulness and meditation are effective tools for managing emotional and physical distress such as anxiety, depression, physical pain, and chronic illness. These tools can also enhance the ability to enjoy daily life. Participants will learn to cultivate an awareness of their moment-to-moment feelings, thoughts, and physical responses and reactions. They will also learn breathing techniques and walking and sitting meditations. Beginners Welcome!

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
Through the practice of yoga, the students will explore new heights in their physical ability which will bring them to new levels of calm and focus. Yoga is a fun means to grow in flexibility, endurance and strength. Yoga promotes great cardiovascular, immune system and nervous system health as the movement and breathing help to detoxify the body and increase energy. The weight bearing aspects of yoga have been proven to aide with degenerative bone disorders such as osteoporosis, while the alignment principles can improve and sustain healthy posture. Since yoga was designed to remove energy blocks in your system, the students are always given the opportunity to reflect on their practice through relaxation and meditation. This element of yoga gives practitioners a chance to explore themselves holistically. Beginners Welcome!

Hatha Yoga
This 60 minute Hatha Yoga class concentrates on the integration of the mind, body and spirit through deep breathing, traditional asanas (postures) and meditative thinking. The first twenty minutes concentrates on stretching, followed by 20 minutes of vinyasanas. The vinyasanas are mainly the sun salutations, warrior series, and core asanas. The last twenty minutes concentrates on stretching, cool down, and final savasana or final relaxation, which seals the practice. If integration between the body, mind and spirit is achieved, the result is a general feeling of well being as the body is allowed to go into a healing state. Beginners Welcome!

Intro to Vinyasa Yoga (60 min)
Introductory level class on Vinyasa Yoga. Vinyasa means to flow with breath. These beginner level classes are designed to teach the basics of "flow" in a way that will reduce stress and increase strength and flexibility so that more advanced practices become possible. Though designed for those who have little or no experience on the mat, this class will still be a pleasure for advanced yogis who want an opportunity to practice their presence. Vinyasa emphasizes an even audible breath called "Ujayii" and muscular engagements that open energy flow called "bhandhas".The proper use of these tools "on the mat" will lead to a greater sense of health, peace, and awareness "off the mat". Beginners welcome!

Vinyasa Yoga Power Hour (60 min)
This level 2 vinyasa class is designed for those who have a basic understanding of flow and alignment who want to move a bit faster and explore new heights without necessarily being advanced in the practice. Great for beginners who want a challenge or long time yogis who want a quickie, this class is a great way to bring more energy into your day. Beginners welcome!

Advanced Vinyasa (90 min)
Though beginners are welcome to attend, this class is designed for yogis who have been practicing for a while and want to expand into new areas energetically, muscularly, and mentally. Although including many beginner poses, this class will bring in advanced stretches and balances that will challenge most practitioners. With less demonstration from the teacher, more emphasis will be placed on personal adjustments to maximize each student's efforts on the mat. (This class is not for people recovering from injuries or who have little background in fitness activities.) Moderate to advanced fitness levels recommended.

Combat in Motion
This class combines Eastern Methods of Martial Arts training and Western Ideas to promote fitness among athletes and non-athletes. Sifu Jack and apprentice Justin, utilize an eclectic approach, teaching many martial arts and disciplines under one roof. Sifu Jack is a man of diverse talent and immense experience. Teaching over 15,000 students in his long and distinguished career, Sifu Jack changes lives. A true competitor, he was the Grand National Champ 3 years in a row and has won over 500 trophies. He has trained numerous fighters in the Tibetan Lama Kung Fu Way, winning many tournaments in sparring, weapons. Never tired, Sifu Jack continues to train and teach today at his school Create, Develop and Flow Academy of Las Vegas. He teaches students from all walks of life and all disciplines. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!

Broken Circle Level 2/ Self Defense
This curriculum is designed for the advanced martial artists who wishes to explore any missing structure gaps that may exist in their training, and further develop the ability to transition from one combative scenario or application to another. It is recommended that each student complete at least one year of Broken Circle I. Considerations will be given to other martial arts or fighting experience.

Tae Kwon Do (TKD)
Tae Kwon Do is an energetic, motivating Korean-based martial art perfect for all levels from the beginner through advanced athlete. Taught by international WTF Master Instructor Marc Gitelman, students will focus on the traditional aspect of tae kwon do with strong emphasis on Olympic style competition. All fitness levels welcome!

* Denotes a specialty class, which requires an additional fee ranging from $20.00 to $49.00 for individual classes/educational workshops. Students and members can also pay a $5.00 drop-in fee for selected classes that have not reached the maximum number of participants allowed.

*Women on Weights
Have you ever wanted to incorporate weight training into your workout program? Concerned with the myths associated with lifting or don't feel comfortable in the weight room? Here is your chance to learn the amazing benefits of strength training along with how to set up a program and perform lifting techniques that will help you improve your muscular strength and conditioning in a safe and comfortable environment.

Enjoy your own private group exercise class or personal fitness training session for a minimal fee. Campus Recreational Services will provide you and a group of your friends, team, residence hall, or colleagues with a certified group exercise instructor or personal fitness trainer for a customized workout session, and a great time!
